Knockdown Rebuild

A new home in the neighbourhood you already love.

Keep the street, the schools and the garden. Start again with the house.

Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do for a place is begin again.

When the existing house no longer fits — too dark, too tired, too expensive to unravel — a knockdown rebuild is often the clearer path. You stay in the suburb you chose. You design a home for how you live now. You receive a new energy fabric, a warranty, and rooms that were never a compromise.

Reece specialises in knockdown rebuilds across Melbourne’s established streets, where neighbourhood character, overlays and neighbours all matter. We begin with the site, not a standard plan.

The right home

A plan that fits your life — not the leftover rooms of a 1960s house.

The same street

Schools, friends and the walk to the shops stay exactly as they are.

A better fabric

Insulation, glazing and services designed for Melbourne, not retrofitted.

A clearer number

Often more certain than a deep renovation that keeps finding problems.

Questions we are asked

What is a knockdown rebuild?+

A knockdown rebuild is the demolition of an existing house and the construction of a new home on the same site. You keep the land, the neighbourhood, the schools and the gardens you have grown — and gain a home designed for how you live now.

Is it better than renovating?+

When the existing structure, services or layout are fundamentally limited, a rebuild is often clearer and more cost-effective than a deep renovation. You receive a new energy fabric, a warranty, and a plan that is not a compromise of old rooms.

Do I need to move out of the suburb?+

No. That is the point. You remain in the street you chose, close to family, friends and school. We can advise on temporary accommodation for the construction period.

Who arranges demolition and permits?+

We coordinate demolition with trusted contractors and manage town planning and building permits. You will always know what is required, when, and by whom.

Can existing trees, a pool or a garden be kept?+

Often, yes. We begin with a site assessment so significant trees, a pool or established planting can be protected and designed around where it makes sense.

How long does it take?+

Design and permits typically take several months, depending on overlays and council. Construction for a home of this quality is commonly nine to fourteen months. We set a programme at contract and report against it weekly.

A site assessment will tell you what is possible — overlays, trees, setbacks and a realistic programme — before you commit to design.
